Crest of the Infinite

Early access · Windows · macOS · Linux

The old ones are waiting. So are the nines.

Crest of the Infinite is a hand-made 2D MMORPG in the old tradition: one shared world, real people, and bosses whose rarest drops come out rolled, numbered and signed.

Rolled relics

Every rare drop is rolled once. Few roll Infinite.

A boss’s rare drops come out of the corpse as relics. The roll is graded by the nines it starts with, and the rarest take a name from the old words of the land.

  1. Standardbelow 0.990 %
  2. Fine0.99 %
  3. Superior0.990.9 %
  4. Masterwork0.9990.09 %
  5. Fourfold0.99990.009 %
  6. Infinite0.999990.0009 %

Stats climb with the roll to the top of the item’s range at 0.9; from Superior on, each grade adds 2 % more.

One roll, once
When a boss falls, each rare drop is rolled a single time: a number between 0 and 1. It sets every stat within the item’s range, and how the item looks.
Fixed before the fight
Each day’s rolls come from a secret seed. Its fingerprint is published in advance and the seed itself the next day, and every roll is an HMAC of that seed and the kill. No second tries.
Signed and numbered
Every relic keeps its serial number for good and carries a certificate signed by the game, with each hand it has passed through. Anyone can check it, and the day’s seed, through the public records at /api/relics/seeds and the relic’s own page.

Relics only fall from bosses. No shop sells them and none buys them; a high roll is something to be proud of first and a little stronger second.

Gorvash Ashmane's remains open on the King's Road, and the tooltip of the Ember-Tusk Wand in them: a Standard relic, roll 0.752155, pattern 64, from Gorvash Ashmane, with its rolled attack, critical, leech and fire bonuses
In game: Gorvash Ashmane’s remains, and a relic from them. Every relic shows its grade, its roll and where it came from.

And the rest of the realm

Plenty to do between the bosses.

Every one of the 193 creatures and 561 items is in the Library.

The world

Stone streets, clay roofs, and somewhere to be.

A continent of towns and hamlets, mountains you can climb and caves beneath them, and an island across the water where the dead bell still rings. Everything is drawn by hand, tile by tile.

One persistent world
No instances, no lobbies. The street you walk down is the same street everyone else is on.
Towns with insides
Step through a door and the roof lifts away. Temples, inns, smithies and libraries, upstairs and down in the cellar.
Market day
Trading wagons stand in the squares, hitched and loaded, with the merchant beside the goods.

Wagons, stairs and banners.

Trading wagons in the market squares, new stairs between the floors, and a banner for every moment worth remembering, with a screenshot taken for you if you like.

Classes

Four ways to start. No wrong answer.

Pick a class when you create a character. Each one starts with different health and mana, and grows from there.

In the client

Pick a target. Let the spells fly.

Target with a click or the space bar and keep your favourite spells on the action bars. Every class has chain spells that jump from foe to foe, and area spells for when the foes come in numbers.

Getting around

Ride the carts. Read the books.

Cart drivers wait at the town gates, and a ship crosses from Saltmere to Velholm. Press M (by default) for the map of the realm. When you need a rest, the libraries are open.

Bestiary

Rats and goblins first. Dragons later.

The monsters of the realm, family by family. Stats and loot in the Library.

Every creature in the game, grouped by family: critters, farm animals, vermin, wolves, bears, spiders, bandits, goblins, orcs, treefolk, swamp things, oozes, trolls, the Umbrim, constructs, the undead, the Ondsworn, Velholm's vampires, the Kindled and twenty-two dragons

And the ones with names

Nineteen bosses, from a goblin who crowned himself with a soup pot to things that were old when the first dawn broke. They rise when they please and drop their gear as rolled relics. Meet them in the Library.

All nineteen bosses with their names, by level: Skrikkit Inkfingers and Snaggit the Self-Crowned first, Yarkaed and The Edgeless last
